About
Dr. João Souza Dias Garcia is an Assistant Professor at the School of Graduate Studies, College of Aviation, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He has extensive aviation safety management experience, having held technical and executive functions at the Brazilian National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) and the aerospace industry. His main research interests are air transportation, aviation safety, data mining, flight operations, flight standards, governance, safety management systems, and safety oversight. He currently serves as a member and the vice-chair of ICAO's Safety Management Panel (SMP). João Garcia holds bachelor's and master's degrees in Electrical Engineering from Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) and a master's degree in Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering from Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica (ITA). He also holds a Ph.D. in Aviation from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. João is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) and a member of the International Society of Air Safety Investigators (ISASI) and the International System Safety Society (ISSS).
