About

Shahrooz Mark Jahanbin is a professor in the College of Aviation at Embry‑Riddle Aeronautical University. He specializes in aviation safety, structural design and certification, focusing on risk assessment, accident prevention and regulatory compliance. Jahanbin holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Aerospace, an MBA, and a B.S. in Aeronautics. His diverse background spans industry and academia, having held senior engineering and leadership roles at Boeing, Leonardo Helicopters, SpaceX and Northrop Grumman. He began his career as an aircraft mechanic while pursuing his Private Pilot License, an experience that shaped his commitment to improving safety and design standards in aviation. His research focuses on structural integrity, advanced manufacturing, certification and recently in the integration of AI for unmanned aircraft systems and risk-based compliance strategies for emerging aviation technologies. Mark serves as the sponsorship chairman for the International Society of Air Safety Investigators and is a former commissioner of diversity, equity and inclusion in his community. He is also a licensed volleyball coach and enjoys mentoring students and professionals in aviation safety and engineering.
