Mehmet Burak Cankaya

Burak Cankaya has a doctoral degree from Lamar University in Industrial Engineering, an M.S. from the University of Houston in Technology Project Management, and a B.S. from Karadeniz Technical University in Mechanical Engineering. Before joining ERAU as an Assistant Professor, Dr. Cankaya was a Sr. Operations Research Analyst at NetJets, an industry-leading Berkshire-Hathaway-owned Private Jet company. He has previous industry and research experience in the Transportation and Energy industries. His passion is Aviation Analytics, Operations Research, and Data Science. His INFORMS BUAN 2022 Conference presentation received the 2nd best poster presentation award. He received grants from Google, DOT, and ERAU. He was selected as Open Education Champion by ERAU in 2023. ERAU COB was chosen as the 2023 COB Faculty of the Year in Teaching Award, the 2022 College of Business Faculty of the Year Award winner, and the 2020 COB Faculty of the Year in Research Award. He built most of the B.S. in Business Analytics degree and believes that conducting research in analytics and data science and teaching the tech skills to lead the 4th industrial revolution is his best contribution to society. His primary research focuses on Explainable AI applications in Aviation and Optimization applications in Crew Planning. Dr. Cankaya enjoys hiking, camping, and wildlife photography in his spare time.
