About

Born and raised in New York City, Dr. Shawn M. Milrad holds a B.Sc. in Atmospheric Science from Cornell University and a M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Originally from New York City, he was an assistant professor of meteorology and then associate professor of meteorology at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University since 2013 and has developed numerous severe weather experiential learning courses, including a Great Plains storm chasing course. His research areas of focus are in synoptic-dynamic meteorology and extreme weather events in the context of climate change. Specific research elements focus on extreme precipitation/flash floods, heat waves, ice storms, and the extratropical transition of tropical cyclones. In early 2018, Dr. Milrad published a weather analysis and forecasting textbook based on his introduction to weather forecasting course at ERAU.
