Abstract

The study of the interaction between humans and computers becomes increasingly important as computer technology permeates every segment of society. Especially in the past 10 years, the field of human-computer interaction (HCI) has become to be recognized as a critical component in the development of computer systems. HCI has been defined as '...a discipline concerned with the design, evaluation, and implementation of interactive computing systems for human use and with the study of major phenomena surrounding them' (ACM SIGHCHI 1992: 6).

HCI is a multidisciplinary subject that draws concepts from computer science, cognitive science, cognitive, social and organizational psychology, anthropology, human factors and ergonomics, and industrial and graphic design.
