Abstract
The vast majority of nations often view space as a key strategic asset, and it is this importance that is causing it to become a highly contested, congested and competitive domain. However, unlike the yesteryears, access to space is not as expensive as one is led to believe. Emerging actors and those with relatively new space programs have managed to make some remarkable achievements on meager budgets. For this paper we consider the national programs of countries like Brazil, Mexico, China and India and assess the key drivers behind national investment in the space sector.
