Abstract

The congestion within the airspace provides concerns and unmanageable challenges to aircraft operators, airports, air traffic control, and the overall ATM infrastructure to support such a high volume of aircraft. In ICAO's 2014 Air Navigation Report provided the air traffic data overview for International, Regions, and Domestic passengers worldwide. Over 3.1 billion passengers made use of global air travel in 2013, and the projection of travel is expected to increase in 2030 to over 6.4 billion based on the forecast. The research is to investigate the SWIM technology and how other systems are integrated to achieve a global harmonic ATM information flow in support of ICAO GANP. This study explains the worldwide system network connectivity using the Air Block Upgrade System (ABSU) Concept of Operations (CONOP), ICAO Air Navigation Reports, and KPI Performance Data. The research answers the correlation between SWIM development and the system dependencies as well as independence. Additional supporting systems research may be needed to develop an understanding of the full network components in support of ATS or Air Traffic Services.
